MALE PATTERN BALDNESS: HOW EARLY CAN YOU START BALDING?

There comes a time in every man’s life when they’ll begin to worry about losing their hair. Going bald is one of the most common signs of aging in men, with over 50 million of them suffering from it in the U.S. However, this seems to happen earlier for some men than others. This can be a devastating blow to younger men in their prime, damaging their self-confidence, especially if they’re made fun of by their peers. It’s enough to make anyone wonder how early can you start balding and how long you can keep your hair.

Male pattern baldness (MPB), also called androgenic alopecia, does have a genetic component. However, it also involves elevated levels of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Genetically, sufferers tend to inherit hair follicles that are sensitive to DHT. These follicles shrink over time, reducing their lifespan. At some point, they’re no longer able to produce healthy-looking hair.

Scientists don’t completely understand how the entire process works, but they do know that DHT is a byproduct of testosterone and that it shrinks hair follicles. They also know that when it’s suppressed, these follicles will continue to thrive. This is why the most effective way to combat hair loss is to slow the production of DHT.

In terms of age, MPB can strike virtually any male beyond the age of puberty. There’s no specific age during which it can strike, but the risk does increase with age. Generally, around 85 percent of men will have thinner hair by the time they’re 50 years old. Some men won’t begin losing their hair until their 40s, while others may do so in their 30s, 20s, or even their teens (American Hair Loss Association). For most men, it occurs between the ages of 25 and 35.

MPB begins with a receding hairline, usually at the front of the head. Over time, the hairline moves backward to form an “M” shape around the temples. As the hair gets thinner and finer, it forms a horseshoe pattern around the back and sides of the head. It’s also possible to experience thinning of the hair at the top of the scalp or a bald patch at the crown of the head.

Revivogen can help slow and reverse the affects of male pattern baldness. The earlier you notice and begin to combat hair loss, the better chance you have to successfully fight it.
